A/O Arverne by the Bay Community Center

is a collaboration of three different entities.                            

ANDERGROUND ORGANIZATION , a nationwide corporation that specialize in community outreach and renewal created almost 5 years ago. Anderground Organization trains and cultivates persons from within any given community to serve that communities needs. Comprised of teachers and educators Anderground or better known in community circles as  “A/O” has successfully built community outreach posting in serveal areas within the united States.

Arverne by the Bay Community Center the current project managed by “A/O”. Arverne by the Bay was created holistically with the needs of the ever-changing Far Rockaways community in mind. With land development at an all time premium in the Rockaways a current tide of wealthy residents is steadily moving into the areas vacated due to high taxes by the middle class. This infusion of currency has created a disconnect between the very wealthy and the steadily declining middle class residents that populate area.

To bridge this gap A/O Arverne by the bay Community Center was founded as community meeting place where persons regardless of income can congregate and share ideals common to all persons regardless of income. The key element to this is the creation of the “Rockaways Adult Literacy & Learning Center” This center slated for full operation in June of 2011 is starting now with programs and services that meet the needs of the community at large. Housed inside the “Arverne Pilgrim Church” Pastored by Dennis and Roslyn Loncke community residents and supporters for close to 10 years.  The Lonckes have been Rockaways residents for close to twenty years. They have pastored and served the Rockaways in their church/community center for over 10 years. There keen experience and expertise prompted the vision of the Adult Literacy and Learning center to be a place of Learning for some and Rebuilding for others.

Thus, in addition to the regular Community center activities The Rockaways Adult Literacy and Learning center will offer the following services;
